Life is what happens when you make other plans

Longest break since I started blogging!

Thank you for the condolences regarding Susie. We miss her but being a 1 dog family is beginning to be our new normal.

Had a lovely time camping, came home, got laid off Monday. True story.

My bestie and I recently purchased a franchise (more on that another time), with the plan I would handle the books, budget, planning, etc. I had planned to ease into it, but instead I am jumping off a cliff. It is both exciting and terrifying.

Here's the funny part, the weight is really dropping.

May 1 - 212

May 31 - 202

Today - 198.5.

So while I have hardly killed it weight loss wise this month, for someone who lost her dog and job I'm doing pretty well.

I hope to be back here more often as I really want to document and write out my feelings regarding this transition.

Getaway

I am going camping with a friend this weekend. It will be nice just to get away. Because I have been having a bit of a pity party, we bought a pool from Wally World so we have a distraction. They were already marked down!

Good bye girl

We said goodbye to Susie Friday. It was a rough weekend.

Not good news

Our dog Susie is quite sick. Unfortunately even after 2 trips to the vet and 2 nights in the hospital, we are waiting further test results. I'm not expecting a good outcome for our girl.

So I was just going along, feeling pretty good about life until Miss Susie got ill. :-(

Wow

I am not sure what's happened and I don't care - I'm walking the dogs consistently. my sleep is improving, and I have dropped 3.5 pounds.

Now I just have to continue!

Checking in

Now that the office is done, I've been enjoying a bit of "down-ish" time. No big projects, but trying to do a deep spring cleaning and some yard work.

Weight is meh - not up or down. I am not happy but I'm not ready to figure out how to change. But I feel like it's happening, albeit slowly. I'm back to walking every morning and I'm eating salads and more veggies, so at least I finally seem to be moving in a good direction - even if the pace feels glacial.

Productive month

Well I got my home office redone!

Built ins along back wall, corner built ins with accent wallpaper, new light fixture, and a desk I made out of an old messed up coffee table I got from FB marketplace for $5. All in all a busy couple of weeks, but I love it!

Mindset shift

I am coming at losing weight a slightly different way this time. The results will likely be slower. I am trying to change my habits and my mindset, hoping the weight will change as a result.

Right now I'm working on finding a morning routine. This is hard because T is working second shift, Wednesday through Sunday. But for my work mornings, I'm trying to keep a routine that feels good without leaving me anxious. Of course the weather has been cold/ wet so walks have been sporadic. But we did move the stationary bike into the guest room from the garage to use on bad weather days.

It feels slow, but what is the alternative>

Spring has sprung

I love spring. I adore spring. I truly am solar powered.

My birthday is in April and I am taking a week of work to do projects around the house. Before and after pictures coming soon!

Do you want to be happy or do you want to be right?

This is a question I've asked myself, my spouse, and honestly one we should all ask ourselves. I recently got a survey from my senator. One of the questions was: Do you think elected officials should work more with the other party to find common ground and get results, or would you rather have them stick to their ideological principles and refuse to work across the aisle, even if it means there are no results?

So, do you want to be right even if you cut off your own nose to do it? When did we all get so dug in? And I don't just mean politically (although we are seeing a horrible case of it in politics) but who really cares whether the forks are in the dishwasher tines up or down? I read a quote once "Housework done wrong still blesses this house." I'm not sure how you even do it wrong. I mean, you might have done a half a$$ job, but it's probably better than it was.

My marriage is happier in part because I no longer waste time or energy trying to get the other human to do everything my way. My heart is lighter. I'm able to enjoy more when I'm not being outraged by the can that didn't get put in the recycle bin.

Compromise is necessary, even desirable. How are we so sure we're 100% on everything all the time?

Changes

I went to the gym! It's spring and we have daylight! It's like all of a sudden I've come back to life.

Some fun stuff

Sunday I did a heated yoga session. Kicked my butt! Yesterday we used a gift certificate I bought us for Valentine's day to a float spa and we did a session there. I will definitely go again! I slept so well last night.

We are going to the gym later this afternoon. I feel like I'm getting my habits back where I'd like them to be.

Yay me!

I don't mean to quit blogging

Its so weird - T is working second shift and my whole schedule is upended. And for watever reason coming here is not a habit in this house.

I joined a gym this week!

Meh

I have been super busy - a friend got a big award (on our historical recreation group) and I helped plan that out. It's a really big deal & was a lot of work, but we pulled it off.  My side hustle is keeping me busy and my son & gf are celebrating their birthdays this weekend at our house, so meal prep and gifts have been keeping me busy.

I'm kind of meh and I can't really say why. Weight is holding steady, so clearly I have mastered maintaining. Lol. If only I were 70 pounds lighte

Wonderful weekend

The weather was AMAZING - just what I needed to help me get through to spring.

When will winter end?

It has been so cold here I don't even want to leave the house. That's not an excuse - I certainly own fitness equipment. But I have been embracing my inner potato. After a weekend of too much football food, I am thankful this week is warming up so I can get outside!

I'll do better

Up 1.3 pounds this week - stopping that evening snacking!

Just checking in

Yesterday was a long day. My primary GP is still in Durham at the VA - a little over 2 hours away. I really like her and since I only go maybe 2x per year, it's worth it to stay with her. Yesterday a friend rode with me to go for a follow up. While I was there I got a pap smear, blood and urine tests, and covid & flu vaccines. So it was a long trip but now I don't need to go back for an annual check up!

Anyway, she reassured me that recovery is a process and it's normal to still be tired.

My weight is still up a couple of pounds, but I'm back to keeping an eye on my food and waiting until lunch to eat. I need to add back in weight training. Maybe tomorrow....

Moving on

Got the car issue resolved for less than $150, so that's a win. My snacking continues to rage out of control and the scale is up 4 pounds - time to turn this around!

Better than nothing

 It's been a week.

Got the snacking under control, then Wednesday my car wouldn't start. For some reason I was really upset - far more than it should have warranted. I texted my son to help me troubleshoot and he used it as an opportunity to dump his bad week on me. So I ended up going to the store for beer & snacks. Yikes.

Luckily I had an appointment with my counselor Thursday and we talked about it and that gave me some good reinforcement on better options. Not to mention beer tears up my digestive tract for a couple of days after which was a pretty good aversion therapy reminder.

Despite my best efforts (ha ha) I was down 0.1 pounds this week. I'll take it!

Take care of yourselves.
