Just for clarity

Just a note about my last post - we aren't 100% sure at this point that divorce is the end goal. Happiness is the end goal and if we can get there together then its certainly an easier result.

Regardless of reconciliation vs divorce, protect yourself with a legal separation.

Regardless of having a very strong prenup in place, file for legal separation very quickly.

If you have any assets to lose or do not want to be financially responsible for his decisions, protect yourself.

We have friends who went thru a legal separation and a divorce, but remained together. All of their legal matters and finances are now kept very separate. He was impulsive in his decisions. He lost/changed jobs constantly. They have three adult children together. She is no longer afraid. She no longer feels like she has a fourth child. It is a unique decision, but she insisted, and that is what they did in order to stay together.
